When life gives you...

Stay cool, calm and carefree, no matter what life throws at you. Lemon-Aid 714, made from lemon balm, magnolia bark, oleamide and valerian root, supports calmness, relaxation and restful sleep. At lower doses it promotes a peaceful state of mind, allowing you to feel settled and sociable. At higher doses it promotes restful sleep, leaving you feeling fresh and revived the following day.

Lemon-Aid 714 supports a tranquil, happy, state. It promotes a clear-headed calmness, without mental fog. This makes it a great choice for when you need to keep composure and stay "in the zone." We recommend taking one capsule at a time for daytime use.

When taken at night, it promotes a deep, rejuvenating sleep. For promoting sleep, we recommend taking two capsules, an hour before bed.

Lemon-Aid 714 contains a natural blend of lemon balm extract (100mg) combined with oleamide (100mg), magnolia bark extract (200mg) and valerian root extract (100mg).

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herb from the mint family. The leaves, which have a zesty, lemon aroma, are known for their calming effects. Numerous studies have indicated lemon balm helps promote calmness and supports a positive mood [12]. It is also widely used for promoting sleep. The rosmarinic acid in lemon balm inhibits GABA-transaminase (GABA-T), an enzyme that degrades GABA. GABA is a neurotransmitter which occurs naturally in our brains to promote calmness. It the chemical in our brains responsible for putting the brakes on racing thoughts, stress or worry. Lemon balm slows the GABA in your brain from being broken down, resulting in higher levels of GABA. Higher levels of GABA can help you to maintain composure. Lemon-Aid 714 contains a highly concentrated 10:1 lemon balm extract, meaning 1g of our extract was obtained from 10g of dried leaves.

Oleamide

Oleamide is a natural fatty acid compound produced in the human brain from ammonia and oleic acid (found in olive oil). It also occurs naturally in the bodies of other mammals. Its natural function in the brain is to help bring about sleep. Studies have shown that it accumulates in the central nervous system prior to sleep, where it produces relaxing and mildly sedating effects [3]. It has been shown to accumulate in the brain and spinal fluid by up to 6-fold after only a few hours of sleep deprivation [4].

Apart from aiding sleep, at lower doses, Oleamide is anecdotally consumed during the day for its perceived calming effects. Oleamide is associated with an increase in GABAergic signalling, which is thought to account for its role in maintaining a calm state of mind [5]. It also increases serotonin signalling [6]. Adequate serotonin levels are associated with happiness. One preliminary study found that oleamide significantly promoted subjective calmness in the test group [7]. Another study indicated that it has potent relaxation-promoting properties, without causing physical dependence [8]. Aside from helping with sleep, there is also some evidence to suggest that oleamide supplements may confer a range of other health benefits, which we will not discuss here. However, the significance of oleamide’s benefits will only be fully understood once further research becomes available.

Magnolia Bark

Magnolia bark (magnolia officinalis) is a flowering tree, native to China. Although it is perhaps not very well known in the Western world, Magnolia has been used to promote sleep and relaxation for thousands of years in China, Japan and Korea. The bark of the tree contains several bioactive compounds. The most well-studied of these compounds are honokiol and magnolol. Research suggests that both of these compounds are potent antioxidants [9, 10, 11]. While Magnolia bark has been ingested for thousands of years, researchers have only recently begun to explore the effects of Magnolol and Honokiol on serotonin receptors and the GABAergic system [12, 13, 14]. Similarly to lemon balm, magnolia is thought to exert its relaxing effects by helping to maintain adequate GABA levels in the brain [15, 16, 17, 18]. While it is anecdotally reported to be effective, the significance of its benefits will not be fully apparent until further research becomes available.

Valerian Root

Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis) is a herb native to Asia and Europe. The root of the herb has been used since the era of ancient Greece and Rome to promote tranquillity and aid sleep. Valerian root contains compounds such as valerenic acid, isovaleric acid and antioxidants such as hesperidin and linarin. Valerenic acid has been found to inhibit the breakdown of GABA in the brain, which may account for Valerian’s reputed calming effects [19, 20, 21]. Several studies suggests that taking valerian root may reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, as well as improve sleep quality and quantity [222324252627].
